Hi, I'm Mike.  Welcome to my Web site. I'm a journalist for the same reason I watch approximately three movies per year: I have trouble sitting still.  

I currently live in Eugene, Oregon, where I am a graduate student at the University of Oregon's School of Journalism & Communication and the people, culture, faith reporter at the Oregon Daily Emerald.  

I am the only person I know whose job has called for getting in a cage with an Ultimate Fighter, learning about Chinese Hell Scrolls, and having conversations with naked PETA activists, casting people at "Wheel of Fortune," and the Blind Judo Champion of the World.  I couldn't imagine myself living in the 9-5 office world; I basically aspire to live the most random life I possibly can and journalism is a good way to achieve that goal.

It's like Jill, my news editor at the Emerald, said: if nothing else, this career will make me incredible at trivia someday.
